In the second part of this interview with Nathan Pickard, we discuss one of his most ambitious projects to date - The Joinery, a community-minded residence being built according to the rigorous Living Building Challenge standards of green design. There are only a handful of completed and certified Living Building Projects on the entire planet partly because the certification goes way beyond sustainability to actually producing a regenerative, net positive carbon and energy contribution back to the environment. We were really only able to scratch the surface of this immense project in our discussion, but I recommend checking out the Joinery’s instagram @joinerylbc where you can find history and updates on the projects material salvages, food trees and food gardens and even hand whittled wooden spoons and utensils. Nathan and his team even managed to persuade the City of Tulsa to pass a net-zero water ordinance that allows home builders to collect and treat their own water and be independent from the City's water and sewer system.
